About LocNavigator
The striations that you see in the rocks and sediment that make up the Grand Canyon are a good metaphor for the many layers of technologies and services required to operate a modern localization program.

Hello, I'm Bill 👋

Bill Lafferty
Welcome to my newsletter!

I got my start in localization early in my career. While pursuing my undergraduate degree at UMass Amherst, I spent a year studying abroad in Japan, living with a host family in Nagoya. One night, my host father, a dentist, handed me a fax written in Japanese. He asked me to translate it into English.

It was dense, challenging text. I was intimidated but also determined to see the task through.

I used a flimsy paperback dictionary. I asked my host father questions. We laughed about my first draft at the dinner table. I persisted, though, and found enjoyment in the process.

Now, 32 years later, I still think about translation every day.

I have developed skills across a range of professional roles, including legal translations, project management, solutions architecture, technical support, product management and client development. This gives me a unique perspective.

The purpose of this newsletter is to share insights about the intersection of language, culture and technology and how it impacts globalization.
